Clinical testing for the newborn

I was surprised to know that newborn babies now undergo a kind of clinical testing to determine if the baby is normal. The procedure is simple but I did not have the details. That clinical testing is aside from the vaccination shots that are administered to the baby for the protection against potential diseases like polio and pneumonia.

Mothers now are luckier than the mothers in the olden days. They are spared of the anguish of the baby getting sick when it can be prevented and diagnosed in advance. But for physical defects like having a harelip cannot be treated at once. Likewise with the mental defects like autism, it cannot be determined while the baby is just days old.
