We had this option to take a ride down the river Ganges. What is unusual about this boat ride is that we were given lit diyas that we were expected to lower in the water.
River Ganges is holy for the Hindus and dead bodies are thrown in there. We just wanted to have this rare experience and we opted for it It was early in the morning but I must admit those lit diyas floating on the river were a sight to behold.
There were countless boats and my husband even had a swim in there something that I thought was not a wise thing as there were reports that the water was polluted. Fortunately all was well.

Neither did I but my husband did it and I was not comfortable seeing him do it
That sounds like an interesting adventure on the River Ganges. I too would not swim there. I do not know if there are any holy rivers here in the US.
