Two years ago I took the top off of a Sugarloaf Pineapple that we get from Mexico and planted it. This is it, the bigger plant. It has never given me pineapples but had a baby, you can see it on the left.

May try it next time and see what happens
You should, until it makes a pineapple it is still a pretty and hardy plant.
Nice view I have never grown a pineapple here in New Zealand but Australia across the ditch has pineapple plantations..
Next time you get a whole pineapple, plant the top!
