These are the stairs leading up to a fortified church and citadel in Cisnadioara, near the city of Sibiu in Romania. The German name is Michelsberg. It was built in the latter part of the 12th century! Much of the outer wall is in ruins but the church, though empty, still stands. It is quite high up on a hill so there are many stairs leading up.
I have tried to imagine, how many people have gone up and down through that ladder, since long ago.
Me too, I can’t even imagine the types of things those stairs have seen…
It is true! The stairs are silent witnesses to the history of certain civilizations.
I just love these types off old stairs. They seem to have withstand time well.
I love these types of old stairs too, as you walk up the stairs you feel the past encroaching.
