It doesn’t matter what I do- when I light a piece I don’t think “this is an elf” or “this is a bike” but treat it as an object with planes that will catch light or fall into shadow. The value study helps me find the most interesting combination of lights and darks
It seems to break it down to the simple original (less is more) tones of the subject.
