Portuguese is the sole official language of Portugal, Brazil, Cape Verde, Guinea-Bissau, Mozambique, Angola, and São Tomé and Príncipe. It also has co-official language status in East Timor, Equatorial Guinea and Macau.

It has over 262 million speakers around the world making it the 9th most used worldwide in the latest 2015 survey.

Albino, banana, buffalo, flamingo, mango, etc. are words derived from Portuguese registered in an English dictionary.
