From the back yard (3/7)

This picture was taken about a half hour before the first picture was taken. It is from the corner of our backyard looking west. Even with the trees in the way in the foreground, the trees on the hillside that are bursting into flame are evident.

As this was taken, bits of flaming debris was falling throughout town, including near where I’m standing. As trees exploded in the fire, embers were carried aloft by the huge updrafts. The fire is somewhat less than three miles from where this picture was taken, but those embers were carried a considerable distance.

This was a cause of many spot fires and a contributing factor to this being a complex of fires rather than a single fire. No structures in town burned, thanks to the vigilance of the community.
