Wander project Greenwood (pool)

Winter, as they say in Game of Thrones, is coming. Based on that I thought I would remember some fun moments of summer past. This was quite a few years ago when we lived in Greenwood. One of the first things we did when we moved to the DC area was decided not to have a house with a pool. Pools are beautiful. They are also at best, a whole lot of work. Every spring and every fall you lost a day opening and closing the pool.

The kids at that time loved having the pool, so that worked out well for everyone. We spent a lot of time over the ten years we had the pool, in the pool. I spent a lot of time skimming the surface of the pool, cleaning out the drain catches and waiting for the repair person to fix the pump. Or to fix the filter, or to fix the salt water chlorinator. All in all a lot of time spent waiting for repairs. Funny how sometimes you only remember the bad things.

Because when I look at these pictures, I am reminded of all the fun. Of our dog Fran standing on the top step of the pool watching the kids. She wouldn’t go into the water, a water dog (Labrador) that got ear infections if her ears got wet she stayed out of the water. But she watched the kids like a hawk just in case there was something she had to do. Sometimes Fran would decide that pool time was over and just bark at her girl until she got out of the pool. That always made me laugh. It demonstrated who was actually in charge!
