Wander project Chicago, and why water all the time!

Over the years a lot of our family vacations have revolved around water. In part, because most of my earliest memories as a child of heading away from home for an time was going to my Grandparents house on Lake Ripley in Wisconsin. Some of my happiest memories are from the many trips we took there. Some of my unhappiest memories were sitting in the back of our old sedan in the mid- to late 1960’s and driving to Wisconsin.

Water isn’t just important to me though, my parents, both mom, and dad, both grew up around water. There are many vacations we’ve taken as an entire family, and I have shared with them, where we were in or near water. That is why when there was an opportunity for the kids to swim, the grabbed it. From being on, in or near the water to boats we had many family vacations revolving around water. Chicago of course, sits right on Lake Michigan, so we were near water in Chicago for this 2001 vacation share as well.

There are also, however, in downtown Chicago many other places to wander. From the Willis Tower (what once was the Sears Tower) to the downtown shopping area known as the Miracle Mile. Located on Michigan Avenue in Downtown Chicago the Miracle Mile is a shoppers paradise. On one end of the Miracle Mile located near the old water tower (why is the water tower on Michigan Avenue famous, it is one of the few buildings that survived the great Chicago fire) ist he destination for this trip we took as an extended family. Yes, the America Girl Store, once an obsession for all my mother’s granddaughters. The American Girl store featured the dolls, clothes and of course an opportunity to have tea. I was unable to attend the American Girl store tea party due to prior commitments (I had to sadly hang out with the twins).
