Travel guide, Nida dunes in Lithuania

The Nida is one of the most famous destinations of Lithuania. Tourists attract there the Curonian Split with the biggest Parnidis dune.

The Parnidis Cognitive Trail, which runs through the mountain forests, begins in the valley of Silence. Walking along the path you will breathe in fresh air, you will see a wide variety of plants and animals. You will also get acquainted with the mountain pine tree (lotus pinus montana), which arrived in the Curonian Spit in the 19th-century middle from Denmark. Well-developed root system located in surface layers perfectly strengthens bulky sand. Mountain pine height only 2 m, trunk diameter – 8 – 10 cm. When you walk in the mountain forests, you breathe in clean, saturated air with phytoncides, these substances not only improve the mood but also heal various respiratory diseases.

From Parnidis Dune, which reaches 52 m, an absolute mathematical horizon opens. There is an observation deck, from which you can enjoy wonderful views of the open dunes, lagoon, sea, forests, the panorama of Nida, therefore it is necessary to memorize the wonderful landscape here. In addition, it is the only place in Lithuania where you can see how the sun rises from the surface of the water and sets into the water. In1995, there was built a solar clock – a calendar that shows the exact time of this place.
