Travel guide: Green Canyon, Turkey

Green Canyon is a real paradise in a nature reserve, located in the Taurus Mountains. It stretches for 14 kilometers and is part of a huge reservoir, formed as a result of the construction of the dam of the hydroelectric power station “Oimapinar” and impressive with its beauty.

The dam was built in 1977, the height of the walls reaches 185 meters. This reservoir is considered to be one of the largest in Turkey, and the water flowing here of 27 natural sources form a deep lake. According to official data, the average depth of the lake is 130 meters, and in some places, it reaches 240 meters. This factor, as well as the presence of underground sources, cause the water temperature in the reservoir and the river to be stable and is only 12 degrees. Thanks to the constant feeling of coolness, even on the hottest day, it is pleasant and comfortable here.

If you want to take a boat trip, it’s better to come to 10-11 hours, because it is at this time that all excursions on the water begin. When you find yourself in this wonderful place, you just enjoy the breathtaking greenish-turquoise waters, the blue sky and the rocks covered with trees. On the tops, you can see the nests of eagles. In addition to rafting on boats, tourists are offered to swim in the lake. Crystal clear and cool water is simply amazing and gives strength to the following adventures.
