The taste of tradition from the mountain Jastrebac (Serbia)

According to the tradition, Jastrebac(hawk) was named after a hawk who made the nest on the bare mountain peak. Seeds of birch, beetroot, beech, coniferous  fell from the branches that he carried in the beak on the rocky mountain. In time, the high, hawk,, trees appeared in these places …That’s how the most rich in woods of this mountain of the Balkans originated.

It is located in the central part of Serbia, in the area between Nish, Aleksinac, Krusevac, Blace and Prokuplje.The highest peak is Velika Đulica (1491 m)

Jastrebac has exceptional climatic conditions (all year round, fresh air and unpolluted environment) and thanks to its mild climate and diversity of flora and fauna, it offers exceptional opportunities for rest and hiking. The areas of Jastrepca are attractive for all nature lovers – mountaineers, scouts, mountain bikers and others.

This place is famous for top quality meat and milk thanks to the exceptional features of pasture grass, and this is still one of the livestock’s most densely populated regions in Europe. Cows from these areas receive healthy foods of high quality from numerous meadows on the slopes of Jastrebac every day, and the quality of their milk is also raised by water that is also of top quality.

At the foot of Jastrebac there are numerous medicinal mineral springs.In the central part of the mountain, in the valley of Lomnica river, there is a big game farm. Hunters can have deer, wild boar and roe. Within the hunting ground “Veliki Jastrebac” there is a resort with lake and catering facilities, a hunting lodge and other hunting-technical facilities that meet the standards of hunting tourism.

For those who like natural food, Jastrebac abounds with a variety of self-eating edible herbs: sremuha (Allium ursinum), nettle, dandelion, wild strawberries, apples and pears, various types of edible mushrooms … which is well prepared, very healthy food.
