Furna de Santana, also referred to as Santana Gruta, Furna dos Anjos and Algar dos Anjos, is located in the Anjos place, in the village of Vila do Porto, municipality of Vila do Porto, on the island of Santa Maria, in the Azores.
Local tradition indicates that, at times when the island suffered incursions from pirates and pirates of Barbaria, the people of the island sought to hide in furnas such as these, in the woods and in the interior of the island, highlighting the “Legend of Furna of Sant’Ana ”
