In one of the biggest meltdowns in NFL Playoff history, the Houston Texans were leading against the Kansas City Chiefs 24-0 in the second quarter of their AFC Divisional Playoff game. When the halftime whistle blew, the Chiefs were up 28-24. Kansas City went on to win the game 51-31. This momentum allowed for Kansas City to win the Super Bowl. This loss hurts even more because the Texans could have won the Super Bowl if they would have held on to the lead. I do not know how Houston will bounce back, but let’s take a look at who they drafted in this year’s NFL Draft.
Round 2, Pick 8: Ross Blacklock – DT – TCU (6’3″, 290 lbs). Blacklock will see some time in the defensive line rotation as a disruptor.
Round 3, Pick 26: Jonathan Greenard – DE – Florida (6’3″, 263 lbs). The Texans add another pass rusher to get to the passer. Greenard had an awesome season with 9.5 sacks and 15.5 tackles for loss. He will definitely see time in their pass-rush rotation.
Round 4, Pick 20: Charlie Heck – T – North Carolina (6’8″, 311 lbs). Houston desperately needs offensive line help. He played at both tackle spots in college, and he will vie for starting time.
Round 4, Pick 35: John Reid – CB – Penn State (5’10”, 187 lbs). Reid should see some time as a back-up cornerback.
Round 5, Pick 26: Isaiah Coulter – WR – Rhode Island (6’2″, 198 lbs). Coulter is an intriguing developmental prospect at wide receiver because of his height.
Grade: Help on both lines was absolutely necessary. However, they only had five picks in this draft. I give them a C-.
