Overlooking your opponent is never a good thing to do in mixed martial arts. Leading up to the middleweight (185 lbs) match-up between Jack Hermansson and Jared Cannonier, Hermansson was already looking ahead to a possible #1 contender fight in 2020. However, the UFC is unforgiving when a fighter becomes complacent.
At the Royal Arena in Copenhagen Denmark, Cannonier secured a second-round TKO victory against Hermansson via ground and pound. Hermansson made a critical error at the start of the second round when he went for a double leg takedown without setting up the wrestling maneuver with strikes. Cannonier was able to brace himself for the takedown while throwing a sneaky left uppercut that hit Hermansson on the temple. After a few hammer fists, Cannonier was declared the winner with 4:32 left in the second round. Cannonier has remained undefeated since he has moved down from light heavyweight (205 lbs).
I used to compete in full contact chess matches, but these days I am more into no holds barred go tournaments…
Maybe that will be on ESPN The Ocho next year.
if so, you might see me on ESPN- I’m the bantamweight champ in my division…
Hermansson is a -280 favorite before the fight and it was unfortunate that he got reckless with Cannonier who has the haymaker shot.
Yup, he cost himself a possible title shot.
