2019 NFL Draft Review – Philadelphia Eagles

Although the Philadelphia Eagles had a decent playoff run, the team was disappointed in the fact that they were not able to repeat as Super Bowl champions.  However, a new season has brought new optimism for the team even though their fans will still boo them.  Let’s take a look at who the Eagles organization picked in the 2019 National Football League (NFL) Draft.

Round 1, Pick 22:  Andre Dillard, T, Washington State.  6’5″, 315 lbs.  Dillard is a very effective pass blocker at the important left tackle position.  He is definitely the Eagles left tackle of the future.

Round 2, Pick 21:  Miles Sanders, RB, Penn State.  5’11”, 211 lbs.  Philadelphia did not advance as far as they wanted to due to unfortunate injuries at the running back position.  He will be a part of the running back rotation off of the bench due to his versatility as a receiver out of the backfield.

Round 2, Pick 25:  J.J. Arcega-Whiteside, WR, Stanford.  6’2″, 225 lbs.  A problem with the Eagles offense last season was that the offense had to settle for too many field goals within the red zone.  Arcega-Whiteside is red zone threat who has the ability to fight for the ball in the end zone.

Round 4, Pick 36:  Shareef Miller, DE, Penn State.  6’4″, 254 lbs.  Since the Eagles are in Pennsylvania, the team was able to see plenty of Penn State last season.  Miller has the ability to rush the passer so he will be able to be a strong 3rd down rusher in their aggressive defense.

Round 5, Pick 29:  Clayton Thorson, QB, Northwestern.  6’4″, 222 lbs.  Thorson will be brought in to be the 3rd-string QB for the team because QB depth is necessary in Philadelphia because Carson Wentz has not finished two seasons in a row.

Grade:  Although the Eagles only had five picks in this draft, they did a lot better than other teams that possessed their full amount of picks.  I give them a B+.
