A whole lot of effort went into the research of discovering Europe’s oldest scientifically dated tree. The journey to the ancient grove of trees in Pollino National Park, in Italy was no instant happening and took many miles of searching. On the way there, many fascinating scenes were recorded and while these images are not necessarily those particular scenes, I have none the less felt a sense of awe when I first gazed on these pictures of stately trees, each graphically remarkable in their own right.
So, en route to the tree named Italus, a 1,230-year-old pine tree, which was to be the oldest scientifically dated tree in Europe, I have decided to commemorate its discovery by publishing a kind of photographic journey of discovery here, please click HERE

Very interesting post and lovely photos. Was the country named after the tree or vice versa? I thought the country was named after the Ital tribe who originally settled there, but I might be wrong.
