Independent since May 20, 2002, East Timor (also known as Timor-Leste) was conquered by Indonesia after colonial Portugal’s withdrawal in 1975. This is the least visited country in Asia. The eastern part of Timor is surrounded by coral reefs, and in the central part of it, there is a lot of primeval mountain forests. So, this place draws adventurers and divers.
East Timor also admires the colonial buildings remaining from the Portuguese era and Ile Kere Kere’s caves with beautiful drawings of over 13,000 years ago.
However, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs warns that the security situation in this country is fragile, it is advised to avoid demonstrations and large crowds, and it is recommended to get out if notice any discomfort. The ongoing crime issue in East Timor continues: the gang violence, robbery (sometimes armed), attacks on vehicles.
