The arched gate in St. Louis is 192 meters high monument dedicated to Thomas Jefferson and his idea of the expansion of the American West. This is the highest monument in the US and the highest arch in the world. It was designed by American architect Eero Saarinen with a Finnish origin. For visitors to the monument has been available since 1965. For the construction of the monument and landscaping the surrounding park was destroyed 40 blocks in St. Louis.

Indeed a sight seers delight but that destruction to create this is not a happy thought
