Sam was in complete confusion. His world was upside down. How could any woman married to him cheat? How could any woman cheat on him?
Him cheating, well, hey! He was everything. Every woman would want him. But Roberta? Going to another man’s bed? Another man? When she had him? How could that be?
For a few days Sam was stunned. Absolutely unable to process anything. That his wife would want to divorce him was incredible enough, but to have had a relationship with his boss? Behind his back? Unknown to him? How?
His confidence was being undermined. Something was not right. This couldn’t be happening to him. To him!
Sam found himself at a lawyer’s office, and wanted to pursue a divorce. He was no longer loud and abrasive, he was small and confused.
The lawyer took his details and his money, and asked for a copy of the marriage certificate and any proof he had of the adultery. The lawyer asked about custody of the children, about property owned. Sam answered as he could.
As he shuffled home he hated everything and everyone, and felt about ten inches tall.
He thought of calling Roberta, seeing his children, but the way he felt … he was sure his wife would laugh in his face and his children would not respect him.
So he went to his parent’s, who would take care of him.
