This is the first chapter which focuses on the protagonists, Julia and Winston. Their secret love affair, their honest conversations.
Where Julia thinks there are chances and possibilities, Winston knows that they are dead. Sooner or later they will be caught and executed.
His view of the world is of the unconquerable undefeatable Party where he is meaningless, powerless, a walking corpse.
Although he enjoys being with Julia, making love, the talking, the privacy, he sees it through sad eyes as if the end is looming before them.
This chapter gives the insight into their characters where she, surprisingly, is more positive than he is.
I read 1984 many years ago, and thought about many of the points, so went back to make sure I had them right.
Good for you for the reading you do. I should read more often.
