Infrared photography

Every photographer is familiar with the visible light, thanks to which photographs or video are taken, but there are other types of light that are invisible to the human eye. Light with a wavelength of between 700 and 900 nanometers is called infrared light.Infrared photography has the power to turn everyday and ordinary objects into unforgettable photos. To shoot in IR, you need a filter.Since the sensors in digital cameras are sensitive to more than visible light, some manufacturers put an infrared filter that blocks IR light in order not to confuse the colors. Filter efficiency varies from model to model, but in some cameras it misses enough IR light to achieve “near-infrared photography”.One of the commonly used filters is the Hoya R72 because it is inexpensive and works perfectly. One of the first things you have to do when shooting in IR is to forget everything you know about the light and hit the right moment of the day. To give the famous glowing effect to your photos, you should shoot when it is sunny. In infrared photography, the leaves of the trees are white. This is because the trees and the grass reflect the infrared light from the sun instead of swallowing it.Another thing you’ll need is a tripod. It is impossible to get good IR pictures without a suitable stabilizer. Because less shutter speed and longer exposure are used, the tripod is a must.
