I’m grateful to have spent the Thanksgiving holiday with my clients, who have intellectual disabilities. I would rather have spent my holiday with them versus spending it alone in my apartment, which can be depressing during the holidays as someone single with no kids nor wife. I was asked to cover a holiday work shift which I rarely decline on the holidays unless otherwise. I instantly thought of things to cook for their Thanksgiving meal because my clients deserve a big meal just like anyone else deserves a big meal for Thanksgiving. The excitement of cooking my second ever turkey outweighed any thought of having to work an 8-hour shift because I know that they will enjoy whatever I cook. While serving in the military, I utilized the holidays to volunteer to keep my mind off not being with family, which helped a lot because it allowed me to give to a population truly in need, plus gain volunteer hours in the process.
Good for you. You are a selfless person willing to help others and we need more like you in this world.
I tend to see it from their view. If I were in their shoes I would want someone to help also.
Ohhh well just find a wife so you are not alone during the holidays.
Hehe, not as easy as you think. Too many crazies out there.
