This is a view of Manukau Heads on a winter’s evening. It’s close to “Stonefields” Otuataua Historic reserve.
The land giants want to carve up this beautiful landscape with houses. There is a Maori village nearby which may soon become history if they go ahead, because then none of the Maoris will be able to afford to live in their own homes.
They say they need more homes for the increasing demand, but most of them will go to wealthy overseas investors.
Sometimes these things happen. A group of Maoris are protesting about it and I’m with them, even though I’m not Maori. Otuataua is the lungs of Auckland and it needs to stay that way.
