Is the concept of ‘religion’ to be blamed for the chaos in the world, or is it the humans who are responsible?

When a child does not obey, the mother immediately creates a ghastly creature to plant fear in it. And this works, the child obeys! Grown-ups aren’t very different either. The only difference is we need more elaborate and extensive fictions. Examples- Islam, Buddhism, the American Constitution, Mercedes, Nike, Batman.

Humans aren’t inherently good i.e. the good in us is inspired. If it had been in our character to be good, then the good wouldn’t be robotic but free-flowing. No one ever tries to be evil- they just are, but to be master to good qualities such as humility and honesty is hard-work. The motivation to do good, no matter how much the hard work, can come from any form of fiction- it could be because one believes in heaven and hell or perhaps he/she is aware of the relatively modern principle of reciprocity. To make the fiction i.e. religion more believable, they invented a hypothetical being now popularly known as ‘God’. Religion without the inclusion of celestial beings wouldn’t have been half as efficient in bringing order. Can we imagine ‘Game of Thrones’ without the Dragons?

It helps that human being are massive aficionados of stories, no matter what the age, we all bask in the happiness derived from the stories, be it in the form of bedtime stories or Netflix.

One religion by itself is bringing about order while many religions or perhaps the competition for supremacy is bringing about chaos. But this argument could be a war intensifier. Well, sigh! History is under no obligation to take care of our best interests. I mean humans(Christians) were killed by humans( Christians) in millions over Jesus. Jesus!

The problem is that humans get emotionally attached to religion which makes thinking objectively that much more difficult. Updating the religion should really be pondered upon and is the need of the hour.

Thanks for reading. Peace out!
