Simple Breakfast Recipes: Vermicelli Upma

What Do You Need?

  • 1 cup vermicelli
  • 1 small onion
  • 1 boiled potato
  • Mustard seeds
  • Cumim seeds
  • Asafoetida
  • Greem chillies
  • Oil
  • Coriander leaves
  • 2 teaspoons fresh grated coconut
  • Sugar
  • Salt to taste

How To Prepare Vermicelli Upma?

Take a vessel and heat 2 cups water in it. Once the water is hot, add the vermicelli and 1 teaspoon salt and 1 teaspoon of sugar. Let the vermicelli cook till its soft but not sticky. This will take around 8 to 10 minutes. Once cooked strain the water.

Heat 2 teaspoons oil in a vessel. Add 1/2 teaspoon mustard seeds. Once it begins to crackle, add 1 teaspoon of cumin seeds. Next add a pinch of Asafoetida and 2 chopped green chillies.

Next add one finely chopped onion. Once the onion turns golden brown in color and one chopped boiled potato. Fry for another 2 to 3 minutes.

Add the boiled vermicelli and a pinch of salt. Cover the lid and let it cook for another 10 minutes. Once ready add the finely chopped coriander.

Your vermicelli upma is ready.
