I completed my first novel, Energy Dependence Day, a few years ago. While I’ve been happy with the reviews, it’s not exactly burning up the “best sellers” charts. With that in mind, I figure I’ll have to come up with the movie soundtrack for Energy Dependence Day on my own. “Escape” outlines Raja’s attempt to evade his co-conspirators or captors, which is it? Afloat in the Persian Gulf, Raja struggles to make it back to shore. Will he be captured, drown, or make it back alive.

The waves carry my life to me. Why was I too blind to see? Here at the end, it’s all so clear, the brutal clarity of deathly fear. An aching heart beats in my chest longing for a moments rest. Still, I swim on through the night unwilling to give up the fight.
One, two, three, four. Death’s behind me for sure. Five, six, seven, eight. I can see heaven’s gate. Nine, ten, eleven, twelve. I am sinking into hell.
The waves carry my fears with them. Every sight signals the end. How did I get here? Why did I fall? Was it possible to ignore their call? Will I make it til sunrise, or will I get a deathly surprise? My muscles ache with every stroke. I’m ready to go up in smoke.
One, two, three, four. Death’s behind me for sure. Five, six, seven, eight. I can see heaven’s gate. Nine, ten, eleven, twelve. I am sinking into hell.
The waves carry me back to shore. What awaits behind dawn’s door? Life and death struggle in me. Which will finally set me free? Will I fall beneath the waves, or be crushed by hatred’s slaves. I guess that’s the price you pay. It seems I’m dead either way.
