Sao Joao Feast in Goa

The most pompously celebrated festival in Goa, Sao Joao Feast is especially for the newly weds. The husbands get drunk on the popular local liqour feni and jump into the well according to the tradition. It is a real treat to watch the local youth adorning floral wreaths on their heads and going out in processions carrying ‘Feni’, getting drunk and jumping into well to impress their wives. Later a lavish feast of seafood and delectable food is enjoyed by all. Music is an integral part of the festivities. The celebrations take a surreal look if it rains during the feast. It is a quirky and eccentric but very interesting celebration in the coastal state of Goa in India.
