History Changing Books at the Adirondack Museum

This is the last post about the Adirondack Museum (now called the Adirondack Experience) for awhile. In some very low light, dim cases on display were some rare edition books. This is  Murray’s “Adventures in the Adirondacks” tourists edition, and this book from the mid 1800’s started the Adirondack tourist craze. He described a wilderness full of hotels and guideboats and guides that took people through the wilds at a time of the industrial revolution where people craved to get away from it all. Hundreds of thousands of tourists flooded into the Adirondacks from the cities and caused a major shift in the economy. There was even resentment by some calling the tourists “Murray’s Fools”.  The lighting in the displays were so dim I had to use astronomically high ISO and a soft focus for this view.
