Guru Nank Dev ji was a saint and the creator of Sikh Religion and first of ten Sikh Guru’s. He was born in 1469 in Rāi Bhoi Kī Talvaṇḍī, (Present day Nan-kana Sahib, Pakistan). He was born to a Accountant Mehta Kalu and house wife Mata tripta. He visited many places in the world like Tibet, most of South Asia and Arabia ,Mecca, Baghdad, Achal Batala ,Multan, Jerusalem, Sudan and several other places and help local people to stay away from Superstition activities and follow the path to preach only one God. His whole life and teaching can be summed up in following three sentences :
Vand shakko Means, we should try to help the needy and even should try to distribute food and other good things between others who are in need and that could be the reason why Sikhs used to have Langar System in which all are allowed free food which is strictly vegetarian.
Kirat Karo Means, we should work hard with our hands and never indulge in any type of fraud and never exploit anyone.
Naam japna means , we all should preach the name of God and should stay away from the five thieves which are : Lust, Rage, Greed, Attachment to things which doesn’t belong to us, Conceit.
At Age of 70, he appointed Bhai Lehna as the successor after him, who was after renamed Guru Angad dev ji. Guru Nank dev ji died on 22nd September, 1569.
Today (4th November,2017) is Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s 548th Birth Anniversary and celebrated as Guru purab ( Day of Guru) in all around the world with happiness and free food and other gifts are distributed between all without looking at there cast, color or creed.
