As a father to a 12-year-old girl, competition is a tough issue. She’s at the point in her life where she must be competitive. With college just around the corner, she has to compete for all sorts of things. There has to be a balance of some sort. Switching gears isn’t easy for any of us. We’ve always told her “do your best” instead of “be better than everyone else.” Things are changing. Now, she has to be the best. Sort of. It is a fine line.

I cannot imagine raising a child these days. A tough job.
After losing my only child my parenting skills stopped.
Difficult issue, and so hard to know what is the right thing to do, again and again. I’m sure it varies country by country, but throughout western culture the themes are the same.
As to the meme, I’m going to be a pedant and point out that every plant tries to have bigger brighter sassier more beautifully scented flowers than the one beside it. That way it gets the bees’ attention and gets to pass on its genes. See? Everything is the same 😉
