The Old Lady

My parents rented out the little side room to an old lady I called Miss Ellis.

The room had been built for a live in helper/nanny who left when I was three.   I barely remember her, only the loud argument she and my mother had before she was gone.

Miss Ellis moved in some time later and lived quietly.  She only came to our side if invited, and didn’t interfere or complain about anything.

My Grandmothers and Grandfathers were different; opinionated, often grumpy.

I’d be dressed up to meet them, then try to get away as quickly as possible.

Sometimes, I’d go to Miss Ellis who could help me with my homework.

That was our excuse.

I went to her to escape my Grands.

What do you think?
