Abusers take pleasure out of hurting their victims. It is NOT always physical. It can be anything where the Abuser feels that he is manipulating his Victim.A particular serial killer, in prison, demanded his women write him complete reports of what they did each day.He would receive the letters and throw them away unread. This was a way he, a prisoner, with no authority, exerted his power.In the example I used in previous articles, Joe took pleasure out of having his Aunt Sally give him the history of a family member. He never read anything she wrote. Aunt Sally, somewhat alert, proved this by skipping from Chapter 4 to Chapter 14.As Joe never read her posts, he didn’t appreciate that she had seen through him. Many abusers do not realise that their ‘victim’ sees through their gambit. This is because Abusers are oblivious to the feelings or unseen actions of others. They focus on their own ego.
Mental abuse is sometimes the hardest, hard to prove.
Unless one gets out of a relationship, and examines every second of it, this would be missed. Mental abuse, be it emotional, intellectual, or spiritual is what allows the victim to lie to themselves.
