Madge got out of an abusive relationship and never stopped to analyse it.
If questioned, Madge would say that her ex-husband, Morty was very jealous. And beat her when he thought she was unfaithful.
If she had analysed she would realise he pretended to be jealous. He used jealousy as his reason to beat her.
Morty would see her talking to another man, accuse her of unfaithfulness and beat her.
Madge didn’t appreciate that this was a MacGuffin. That this was an ‘acceptable’ excuse. Madge didn’t realise Morty used this as his ‘reason’.
It was not that he felt she was having an affair with the garbage man, it was that he wanted to beat her so claimed that he was jealous of the garbage man.
Many men use this excuse….often they say; “You know I love you with all my heart and when I saw you smiling with the garbage man, I don’t know what happened!”
He should have given Morty some Szechuan sauce.
Until the woman realises that whatever he uses is merely an excuse to beat her, she will be a punching bag.
