Cutting the Cords – Herbert – 11

Steve called  his mother to say that Jeff was on his way home.   As Judy and Herbert were not at Herbert’s house, they had no need to rush away.  They slowly packed and left the following day, he going in his direction, she in her’s.

When Herbert entered the house, Jeff was livid, demanding to know where he had gone, what he had done, why he hadn’t been there.

Herbert didn’t apologise as he usually did.  Instead he barked; “Business trip,” and left it, going to his room.

Being with Judy had boosted his confidence, made him lose a large chunk of the guilt he had carried.

Herbert thought of his ‘guilt’ as he sat on his bed.

What had he done to feel guilty for?
