When Debbie was twenty five her father died. He died and her mother was left helpless.
Where she and Ever had education and jobs, her mother was a ‘housewife.’ She had depended on her husband for everything.
Now that he was gone, she turned to Ever and Debbie.
Ever left the family home, jumped into a marriage, and went to Canada with his wife.
Debbie stayed to look after her mother. Her mother needed a lot of looking after.
Debbie could go to work, could take her mother to the religious or social activities she desired. Other than that, Debbie had no life.
