RoundUp settlement in jeopardy

In June, Bayer and Monsanto made an $11 billion (USD) settlement with thousands of consumers who contracted cancer when using the weedkiller RoundUp.  However, US District Judge Vince Chhabria is looking to possibly disregard this agreement after lawyers for the litigants are claiming that Bayer has allegedly welched on the plan made a couple of months ago.

In a hearing yesterday, Judge Chhabria is delaying his decision on whether or not the attorneys for an estimated 125,000 consumers can continue with their cases against Bayer and Monsanto until September 24.  If Judge Chhabria determines that Bayer will not hold up to their side of the agreement over the next month or that all negotiations remain at a stalemate, then the agreement will be thrown out.  If the agreement is thrown out, then all 125,000 cases will be tried before courts throughout the USA.
