A ‘Successful’ Woman – 2

I stood in the Entrance Hall, speaking to this eminent surgeon, and that renown scientist, all the kings and queens of the medical profession, who were here to honour me, Dr. Elspeth Galoway.

Discussions floated around me, as  I watched the doors to see who would attend this ceremony when I saw him.

A smile exploded onto my face. It was  Mickey!  My Mickey!  Dr. Gaynor, Micky Gaynor!  Ahhh… years ago… when I was a resident at a hospital in Chicago, we had been lovers.  Lovers in every possible sense of the word.

Oh it was short but so sweet. Four months… then I took a post in New York City, and although there had been a few early phone calls we had lost touch.

As he came in, looking only slightly older than he had a quarter of a century ago, I found him as desirable today as I did then.

I felt to leap to my feet, run across the room and into his arms, when I noticed his arm about a woman, a woman about our age. She turned to say something to him, and shove her hair out of her eyes, and her wedding band caught the light.
