Making Up For Ugly

Karen was a very pretty child.   She grew up to believe she was beautiful and became a fashion model.  She had a way of talking and smiling, and acting.

When she entered her twenties and married she became fat.   Although one thought she’d lose her ‘baby’s fat’ she didn’t.   She is fat.

She tries to act like the Beauty Queen but no one notices because she is no longer pretty.  So, she has become a snob.  She is now amassing expensive products which she uses to define her.

She must have ‘the best’ and will discuss her car and her fridge as if they are reflections on her character.  Buying the most expensive sun tan oil today is like being selected for a front page.

Many people who use things to define them feel inferior.
