Feeding Ducks, Geese, and Swans…

Saturday, 11.24.18

I woke up early this morning, and I worked on another 10 pages. Then, I needed to take a break. I realized I was out of food, as well as toilet paper and Gumby is almost out of food. So, today’s break was at Trader Joe’s. I noticed lots of autumn-themed food, such as food with corn, pumpkin, squash, as well as vegan turkey.

When I returned home, I was browsing on Facebook, and I read an interesting article. It states that bread isn’t healthy for ducks and swans. And, it also contaminates the water and brings in my rats. The article adds that if you want to feed ducks, geese, and swans, then it is better to feed them lettuce, peas, and sweetcorn. I will remember that if I have any extra, and I am at a park environment.

What about bird seeds? Ducks, geese, and swans are still wildlife birds, like any other wildlife bird that I feed bird seeds. Sometimes, I take them some bird seeds I buy for the pigeons, doves, hummingbirds, finch, and other small birds that come by my place.

    • ….”Most typical sliced bread or sandwich bread is a poor food choice for birds. This bread is heavily processed and contains chemicals and preservatives that are not suitable for wild birds. Bread contains very little protein, which birds need to develop muscles and feathers, and it does not contain the fat birds need for energy. Instead, bread is primarily a carbohydrate that, while it will fill a bird’s stomach and alleviate hunger, does not provide much nutrition. The same is true for similar bread-like products such as buns, bagels, crackers, chips, pretzels, cookies, cereal, and donuts.”
