My tenderhearted grandson recently asked me if animals are sad in zoos. I felt like it was a question that deserved some research and an honest look at the way he was feeling. We have a zoo pass and we go often and usually enjoy ourselves. There is a bird show and they explain in detail how the birds get there and why their lives are better, and that is the only program where we have truly heard about the animals in our zoo.
So I contacted our local zoo and posed the questions he had and some of them were very specific. (He knows the names of the animals, when we got them and what little is published.)
They responded with questions about his school and offered to provide transportation for him and his entire class (they live 60 miles away from the zoo) to learn about the animals in our zoo and the things they do to keep them happy.
The school has not responded yet and I really do hope they allow the children to go. The zoo even volunteered to feed them. I want to go and learn what they do to keep the animals interested and happy too!
It depends on the animals. They can be happy with the food maybe.
It’s interesting how a little question turned into a great opportunity for the school. ?
It’s back to my self care project. Hopefully it is short lived.
