These little dotterels are sea birds that are endangered in New Zealand. Our Department of conservation fences off their nesting areas to protect them In many places dogs are forbidden.
I think they are the little gulls. They come out for food before the sunset.
Thanks Barbara, these birds can be invisible and you need to look for them. Could be that many places have dotterels.
I may have seen them, but I haven’t recognized what they were.
