Here in India it is raining cats and dogs and in some places it is flooding. This is the time to harvest rainwater as around April/May there is always water shortage.
There are many ways in which water can be harvested and those who do not want to invest can easily have pits dug in their compounds where water gets collected and improves the level of reservoirs around. This water would otherwise just get into roadside culverts and join the sea. This does not cost much but the results are phenomenal.
We have many pits dug and feel nice that we are playing a role in conserving water.

Do you do water harvesting in the rainy season?
-
Yes

In Latvia, we always gathered rainwater in big barrels and pure clean snow when we had a lot.
That water is normally is used for gardening, bathing…….. and may be with some purifiers added that could be used for drinking as well
In our area, we are allowed 2 x 50 gallon rain barrels.
Do you get those barrels empty and you fill them up?
They’re empty to begin with, and we set them up under the drain spouts. Hence, the rain from the roof is eventually funneled into the barrels.
Each country I think has its own way of harvesting water.
