The media is hysterical about how society will change forever due to the the Covid-19 apocalypse.
This one imagines social distancing becoming permanent, that one blathers about how the economy will never recover.
I hear this stuff on the radio as it takes a few steps for me to shut it off or, due to my speed reading, I choke on a few lines before I can close the page closes on the computer.
The idea that anything will change society ‘forever’ is ridiculous. It never had, it never would.
Just about 50 years ago, there were protests all over the world. There were marches and rallies for equal rights. Streets were blocked with sit ins, pickets, and one might have assumed that people would take control. No longer would they be mindless sheep following a government, afraid to stand their ground.
Obviously, that didn’t happen.
Americans, for example is as oblivious to reality as they were in the 1950s. If their government told them something they never questioned it. The Same as today in 2020.
This plague of Corona Virus will pass through, leave memories, and people will return to the status quo ante.
And those who are too young to grasp the facts, or born after 2020 won’t even know it happened.
….”Americans, for example is as oblivious to reality as they were in the 1950s. If their government told them something they never questioned it. The Same as today in 2020″.
I am an American and take this as an insult. You cannot say Americans in general, as you do not know how we, as individuals think about the situation.
We; those of us outside of America see the people protesting to have the lock down removed, see them cramming the beach, see Trump’s tweets…. it is public. People did listen to the gov. it was only in the mid 60s to early 70s there were all these protests and confrontations. How many people protested the War in Afghanistan? Iraq? In the 60s the streets would be full.
But that does not mean everything you see in the media is true. And it does not mean we ALL feel and believe like the protestors. I am not protesting.
In my country, we went into lockdown weeks before you did. Many people hate the idea but they know it is right. They know keeping social distance and staying in is the only way. Sure it is not fun.

Yes you’re right, this will all pass over. I can’t wait for that day.
Take advantage of these days for the stories you’ll tell in ten years
