It is understandable that the tin roof needs some protection against the elements. When left to its own for years, rust will develop and the material will be damaged to that pint that it would need to be replaced. The advice is to paint the roof not really for the aesthetic aspect but for the protection of the tin roof.
The newly installed roof should have a paint and if no paint then it needs to be painted. There is the so called primer that would give more protection to the material of the roof. After the primer is dried that’s the time to apply the paint with the desired color. When the roof gets old and rust had appeared, it is best to treat the roof with a rust remover fluid and clean it well before applying the paint. That will add another 5 years to the life of the roof.
