Our star fruit tree is being pestered by the fruit flies. They are not the small fruit flies that we usually see in trees. The pestering fruit flies here are like a wasp. They have a stinger in their bottom that they use to prick the star fruit. According to my research, once pricked, the fruit would have a dot which is the deposited egg of the fruit fly.
To avoid confusion I am calling that pesky insect fruit wasp. It is just slightly smaller than the wasp so it is clearly visible when it alights on the fruit for pricking. In the picture is the small bottle that is a trap for the fruit flies. I hope it works.
Do you see fruit flies in your garden?
