The monks in Bangkok

On our first trip to Bangkok, Thailand, what caught my attention were the monks who were clothes in saffron colored tunics. They wander in the streets in the early morning searching for food. They are not scavenging though but trying to find donors from the public. We bought 5 packs of meals that we handed to one monk who recited a prayer for us. On the second day we woke up early to find the monks again and offer food.

I thought that those monks are like Catholic priests whose vocation is their religion. Those monks are like going on a retreat only for 2 weeks or so. They roam the streets as part of their sacrifices to gather food for the temple. It is quite an experience to see those monks in the streets of Bangkok.
