Our village is known for big and old trees that are planted by the roadside. That means the trees were on the sidewalk so the pedestrians have to walk on the road once in a while to avoid hitting the obstacle. In the secondary roads, there are also no sidewalk to speak of because plants or trees have occupied the walkway.
One advantage that we have is the feeling that we are green. Most of the sidewalks have nice trees and nice plants whether ornamental or edible. Our frontage is occupied by the banana plants that bear fruits which is a sight to behold.

I go in the street while walking if people on the sidewalk and are coming towards me and I really do not want to get too close to them. We do not have plants growing where sidewalks should be, but, we do have places with no sidewalk at all and have no choice but to go in the street.
