I have been observing the insects in our garden for a potential pest. Our star fruit is being ruined by a certain unidentified pest so I had to make some investigations. My first suspect is the honeybee. As can be seen in the picture, the honey bee is in the flower of the banana bloom. I have also seen some honey bee in the star fruit tree. However, I don’t think it has an attraction to the fruit because I had not seen it even once on the fruit.
After seeing all the kinds of insects that are visiting our trees, I already found the culprit. It is a unique type of fly with the color of gold. It is easy to spot because it is always on the fruit. So that’s it, I now have the identity of the criminal.

When I lived in Latvia we had a space above the garage and honeybees made a huge hive in that space and all summer we would see them flying about the flowers.
