The coat and tie for formal attire

The coat and tie originated in the western part of the world. But here in the orient we have acquired that attire that we use for formal occasions or affairs. The coat is not cheap so the men usually have only a few of those since they all look the same anyway which means people will not notice if you have only 1 suit.

Now I wonder if we can wear our native formal dress because in international gatherings it is usually the black coat and tie. Fortunately I always have the tie and the black coat ready when I need it.
